Hameed Shaqq, known as "The Pan Piper of Toronto", is a name synonymous with Steel Pan music excellence. Shaqq hails originally from Arima in Trinidad, where he played and learned to develop love and respect for the Steel Pan Instrument. Primarily, Shaqq is a solo performer, playing at private and public functions, Community centers, bookstores, libraries and schools. He was greatly influenced and trained by some of Trinidad's Virtuosos of Steel pan music while playing Steel pan with Invaders, Silver Stars, Harmonites, Arima All Stars and also an original member of Arima Pan Pipers Steelband.
During the 1970's Shaqq primarily played with the first, four times Panorama Champion. Solo Harmonites thrilled international audiences at events such as the World Fair held in Zurich {1972} OAS Conference in Atlanta, Georgia USA (1974), Festival of Spain playing at venues across Spain {1975}. Shaqq toured various Caribbean countries and was invited to the Dominican Republic to conduct Steel pan workshops with members of Konkiti Calypso Boat Crew. Shaqq was present in Toronto Caribana presentation at the Chinese International New Year Celebrations both in 2004 and 2005 in Hong Kong, futhermore. also represented the Steel Pan Performing Arts at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

World Steelpan Music Performance.
An open invitation to the Minister of Arts and Culture Mr Winston Peters to host a World Steelpan Musical Performance! The Consulate General to Canada has been notified.
This is a proposal for the commemoration and celebration for an historical land-mark of Trinidad and Tobago on August 31st, 2012.
In 1962 the year of Independence the government did not declare the Steel Pan the National Instrument. It was not until 1992, the Steelpan became the National Instrument of Trinidad and Tobago.
In tribute and to comemorate the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of Trinidad and Tobago. I propose that Steelbands and Steel Pan Players World-wide perform the official version of the National Anthem of T&T, as a tribute to 50th year of the Independence of Trinidad and Tobago! The Land of the Steel Pan.
To raise awareness to the origins of the Steelpan, as a symbol of Freedom and Cultural Expression. The Steel Pan Instrument is as symbolic as the Statue of Liberty. Spread the word over the world, please, pay tribute to a 20th century Musical invention.
